Defying the dreaded lull.
I always feel that there is a ‘dreaded lull’ that happens at this time of year in cinema. It’s post Oscar season, so all the big films chasing the coveted golden statues are no longer showing. It’s not yet summer so all the blockbusters aren’t out yet either. And for us mere mortals who aren’t fortunate enough to attend Berlin, Tribeca, Sundance and Cannes,...

"Can you ever just be whelmed...?"
“I think you can in Europe?” 10 Things I Hate About You. All hail the classics. Is everyone getting involved in Film4’s films for life? I’m loving it. Slight confession - in September 2001 I watched this film every day for the whole month. Till this day I cannot tell you why, but If I could go back in time, I’d do it all over again.

Bully
I’m very glad to hear the MPAA have changed the rating for  the film BULLY. This is a film that young people NEED to see, after all its about them. It’s seems absurd that the whole rating controversy regarding the film was in regards to the use of bad language. Young people hear and use bad language all the time, especially towards each other. I for one am very much looking forward...

Its Feature Friday… Where we feature a beloved, just seen and need to talk about, or can’t wait to see rom-com! And this Friday Its all about, The Five Year Engagement. Check out the trailer. Reasons I’m keen - there are many and not limited to. 1. Jason Segel, he’s that perfect mix of funny but in a way that can be romantically believable, who doesn’t want to...

Welcome to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel!
THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL “Everything will be alright in the end and if its not alright, it is not yet the end” Sonny Since I first saw the film back in January (and yes I have seen it multiple times) I have not been able to stop talking about it to whoever will pretend they are listening to me. There are so many things that make this film great, it really is a gem and my hope is that you...

Shame - 2011
SHAME -2011 This film for me got lost in the Oscar season rush and never quite received the fanfare it deserved. I absolutely loved it. So I wrote a review. Steve McQueen’s, SHAME, is a visceral exploration into the mind and life of sex-addict, Brandon Sullivan . Played by Michael Fassbender, Brandon is a plethora of contradictions. He is handsome, popular, successful and seemingly has everything...

Juno - 2007
Cannot believe its been 5 years since Juno came out. I just stumbled across it on More4 and remembered why I love it so much. Here are just 5 reasons. 1. Allison Janney (one of the greatest actresses ever) this should be reason enough. 2. The soundtrack is cool - I love me a bit of Belle and Sebastian. 3. Diablo Cody’s well crafted, quick, quirky screenplay. 4. The opening credits. ...

East-aahh!!
and that means this weekend most of you can get to eating some chocolate again after Lent. I for one suggest you go WILD and put this on whilst you do. There really is no better way to enjoy chocolate - and to let you know when you’ve had about enough. 10/10 (Circa 1971) Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory

I'm stepping up to the plate (again) so why not?
BRIDESMAIDS – 2011 One of my best friends asked me to be a bridemaid -and so I thought, why not dust of the ultimate handbook to being the brides right hand gal. If you haven’t seen this film - why not? seriously? Bridesmaids has drawn countless comparisons with the Hangover – only its the girls version. And whilst I love both films, I would have to say, I’m gonna have to disagree. One...

Wild Bill - 2012
A definite must see. British cinema at its finest. Dexter Fletcher directs a superb cast in a film about relationships and redemption and still manages to keep an east end edge on things. One not to miss. 8/10
