Defying the dreaded lull.
I always feel that there is a ‘dreaded lull’ that happens at this time of year in cinema. It’s post Oscar season, so all the big films chasing the coveted golden statues are no longer showing. It’s not yet summer so all the blockbusters aren’t out yet either. And for us mere mortals who aren’t fortunate enough to attend Berlin, Tribeca, Sundance and Cannes, there isn’t much to choose from when it comes to the cinema…I for one think its a great opportunity to see what classic/ old films a local cinema might be screening. Or how about going to see a great Indie or foreign film that you may have overlooked. And if none of the above options tickle your fancy, why not screen one of your favourite films at home and get some friend around? I often find that re-discovering an old favourite can be just as rewarding as going to see something brand new. If you are in need of a suggestion, let me know. I for one am going to be dusting off John Singleton’s first offering “Boyz n the Hood” (1991)
Enjoy!
