What (not) To Expect When You’re Expecting
I have to say, I really enjoy it when a film proves me wrong and in this instance this definitely was not the case.
What to Expect When You’re Expecting has all the promise of a great, laugh our loud, comedy, but doesn’t deliver. What’s really frustrating here is that its hard to see why. All the elements of a good film are here. An ensemble cast, good soundtrack and strong material.
Elizabeth Banks who plays Wendy Cooper really shines for me in a mid-heavyweight cast of mediocre/hit & miss performances. But its not just the performances that are lukewarm here, its the script and the direction that are without.
To their credit, I believe the cast did the best with what they had, but this film feels put together in a really lack-luster way that all but turns you off, save the odd moment of comedy/emotion here or there. You don’t come to care enough about any of the characters and we jump from story to story without a real semblance of how we are meant to feel. I was really disappointed as I hoped this film was going to be full of laughs and one for the dvd collection, but alas, I won’t be recommending you rush to see it on the big screen.
